UPE suspends directives before start of new scholastic year

The Union of Professional Educators has suspended with immediate effect several directives that were issued during the course of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The following  directives have been suspended:

LSE Nurture, Members of the UPE are not to do any replacements.

LSE’s who are members of the UPE are not to accept any replacement lessons but are to remain in their class assisting other students as per job description.

Members of the UPE are not to attend any meetings, appointments, case conferences etc. held outside school.

Peripatetic teachers, complementary teachers and teachers who offered other services, who have been deployed in the primary sector, and who are members of the UPE are not to accept visits from Education Officers, Quality Assurance Officers, Supervisors or other superiors as long as they are deployed to take up a class-teacher or replacement role.

Peripatetic teachers, complementary teachers and teachers who offered other services, who have been deployed in the primary sector, and who are members of the UPE are not to forward any schemes of work to their SMT until further notice.

Teachers and KGEs members of the UPE are not to do replacement lessons during curriculum time. (This directive is not applicable to KGE/Teacher relievers.)

Members of the UPE are to refrain from submitting assessments related to LOFs.

Educators who are members of the UPE are not to engage in face-to-face communication with members of the SMT. All communication between educators who are members of the UPE and their SMT is to be held virtually.

Members of the UPE are not to answer any calls or emails or any other means of communication sent by the SMT or Ministry after school hours, considering that educators already do work from home including lesson preparations. 

Supply teachers are not to accept visits from the SMT (Specifically from Assistant Heads and Heads of Schools).

Members of the UPE are not to do online replacements. 

Members of the UPE are not to add members of the SMT on their respective online platforms, such as MS Teams, etc. 

LSE relievers and KGE relievers who are members of the UPE are to refuse to take on more than one replacement per week, therefore one is to stay for a whole week in the same class. 

KGEs who are members of the UPE are to refrain from carrying out lessons if students do not wear a face mask in class. Students with a disability are exempted as per Public Health protocol. 

Teacher members of the UPE are not to input any assessment marks online or on paper. 

Teacher members of the UPE are to cease carrying out activities outside the school premises. 

All members of the UPE are not to answer messages sent by parents via MS Teams. 

All members of the UPE are to cease written communication via email, text, MS Teams, etc. with school management. 

LSEs of all grades who are members of the UPE are to cease all paperwork related to their personal file and are not to hand in any official documentation to the SMT. 

All members of the UPE are to stop accepting classroom visits by the SMT, including Supply Teachers and NQTs members of the UPE. 

All members of the UPE who have COPE or SDP meetings are to log online and MUTE sound and TURN OFF the camera during these sessions. They are not to participate actively for the duration of the above-mentioned meetings. 

Reading Recovery Teachers who are members of the UPE are not to register/login or participate in asynchronous forums and online lesson observations. 

Teachers members of the UPE are free to choose if they want to attend in person or virtual LOF or other meetings. They are not compelled to be physically present.
