UPE has engaged in constructive discussions with the Ministry of Education to formalize procedures for Paid Carers’ Leave, ensuring alignment with workplace regulations and employee welfare standards. The agreed implementation process will proceed as follows:
1. Notification Protocol: Employees must inform their respective line manager of their absence through standard reporting procedures, consistent with existing protocols for sick leave or emergency leave.
2. Medical Certification Requirement: The employee is required to obtain a medical certificate from a registered General Practitioner (GP). This document must explicitly confirm that the absence was necessary to care for a sick member of the same household.
3. Submission of Documentation: Upon resuming duties, the employee must provide the certified medical note to their line manager to validate the leave period and facilitate payroll processing.
UPE remains committed to advocating for streamlined processes that balance operational efficiency with the compassionate needs of employees.
