UPE Statement: Ombudsman’s Ruling Highlights Systemic Failure, Demands Immediate Reform for LSEs

The Office of the Ombudsman has delivered a conclusive report, formally declaring the long-contested system used to rank Learning Support Educators (LSEs) by academic qualifications for seniority purposes as “illegal,” “discriminatory,” and an act of “maladministration.” This ruling brings into sharp focus a systemic issue that has created division and uncertainty within the profession for years.

The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) acknowledges the profound impact this has had on all LSEs and views this finding as a critical opportunity to unite in pursuit of a single, fair, and lawful system for all.

Unlike others, the UPE was clear from the begining and publically made reference to the differences in ‘Seniority’ and “Ranking Order’.

We had always spoken clearly, and explained in detail to all LSE’s, the legalities behind this long-contested system.

The question is, will things change or will the Ombudsman report be shelved like other recommendations?
