Update: Removal of Directive on Checklists

The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) has engaged in internal discussions and conversations with the Ministry concerning the practice of requiring Year 1 and Year 2 teachers to complete checklists for several weeks. Following several discussions, it has become apparent that Year 1 and Year 2 class teachers must handle the checklists because they are familiar with the literacy abilities of their students. Throughout the year, the class teacher evaluates the students informally and identifies those who require additional attention, referring them to school management and complimentary teachers.

As a result, the aforementioned directive has been immediately revoked.
