The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) has been alerted by members across a number of schools regarding a recent administrative change that negatively impacts all educators, especially Learning Support Educators (LSEs) and the students they assist.
We are receiving reports that Twinkl licenses for LSEs are being suspended, restricting access to this essential educational resource exclusively to classroom teachers. This decision severely limits the ability of LSEs to prepare adequate materials and support the specific learning needs of the students under their care.
According to the feedback gathered from educators, teachers are allegedly now being instructed to manage this shortfall by either sharing their personal login credentials with the LSE in their classroom or by taking on the extra responsibility of downloading and providing all necessary documentation themselves.
The UPE views this policy as both impractical and counterproductive. It places an unnecessary administrative burden on teachers, who are already stretched thin, while simultaneously creating a significant inconvenience for LSEs. Most importantly, this disruption directly impacts the quality of support provided to students who rely on tailored resources to thrive in the classroom.
Given the widespread impact on school staff and the potential disruption to student learning, we are calling on the relevant authorities to reconsider. We ask that this decision be reviewed and reversed to ensure that all educators retain access to the tools they need to effectively perform their vital roles.
