The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) is receiving numerous complaints indicating that several teachers will not be assigned a physical classroom for the forthcoming scholastic year.
This situation is a direct result of severe overpopulation within our schools. It is evident that student numbers have increased drastically in several localities, including but not limited to Qawra, Mellieha, Zejtun, Msida, San Gwann, Sliema, Gzira, Tarxien, Paola, Marsaxlokk, and Marsaskala, as well as other locations across Malta and Gozo.
Consequently, many peripatetic teachers are being left without a dedicated classroom in which to teach—specifically, a space where they can display and store their teaching resources securely.
These educators have been effectively transformed into nomads, forced to travel from one area to another whilst carrying all their materials with them. This is an untenable and unprofessional working environment.
How can the Goverment claim that educators are being treated fairly when the most basic requirements for performing their duties are not being provided by a failing Ministry of Education?
Minister Clifton Grima might as well use his wellbeing policy documents as toilet paper, for all the good it is doing. It serves no purpose in the face of such fundamental neglect.
