Revisions Made to Secretariat for Catholic Education’s HR Manual

The Secretariat for Catholic Education has recently announced two revisions to its Human Resources (HR) Manual, which address certain policies and procedures. These changes have been implemented after careful discussions and considerations. The updated HR Manual is now accessible online via the Secretariat’s website, providing employees with a convenient resource to consult.

6.2.6.iii Adoption Leave Application Procedure

From:

At least four (4) weeks prior to the commencement of adoption leave, the employee is required to submit an application form to the respective Head of School. The application form should be supported by full documentation.

To:

At least two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of adoption leave, the employee is required to submit an application form to the respective Head of School. The application form should be supported by full documentation.

6.4.1.iii.a Conditions of Sick Leave

From:

  • Sick leave is applicable in cases of unfitness for duty as certified by a medical practitioner. Sick leave cannot be availed of for regular visits such as check-ups, blood tests etc. It is at management’s discretion whether in such cases temporary absence is granted, as long as employees compensate for the hours availed of as temporary absence.

To:

  • Sick leave is applicable in cases of unfitness for duty as certified by a medical practitioner. Sick leave may be availed of in cases of preset appointments by consultants in hospitals and upon presentation of appointment documentation. Sick leave cannot be availed of for visits such as check-ups and blood tests except in cases ordered by consultants.

To ensure compliance with the most up-to-date policies and procedures, it is crucial for members to acquaint themselves with the revised HR Manual. The Secretariat for Catholic Education has incorporated these revisions after considering feedback and engaging in constructive discussions, with the aim of enhancing clarity and fairness in various aspects of leave entitlements.

It’s worth noting that the Union of Professional Educators (UPE) continues to raise objections regarding several points that directly contradict the current agreement, particularly in relation to disciplinary procedures. Updates regarding this matter will be announced accordingly.
