The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) welcomes the agreement reached today between the Prime Minister’s Office and the major confederations in Malta.
Today, it has been announced that public sector workers will receive a top-up in their collective agreements to ensure they receive the full COLA sum.
“…public sector workers will receive a top-up in their collective agreements to ensure they receive the full COLA sum.”
This is to address the difference between the financial package in their collective agreement and the COLA mechanism. The top-up includes a weekly increase of €6.41 in the collective agreements to reflect the full COLA amount of €12.81. All workers in the public sector will be entitled to this top-up.
This means that for the year 2024, Educators in State and Church Schools will receive a weekly amount of €6.41, totaling to €333.32 by the end of the year.
The UPE wants to clarify that this increase has nothing to do with the current financial discussions on the upcoming sectoral agreement.
