The Union Professional Educators (UPE) has received numerous reports from disgruntled teachers stating that the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) has issued directives to prohibit meetings from taking place during the initial working days for educators. Consequently, meetings planned with parents for Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th September have been cancelled due to this directive.
Thus, the MUT has imposed a burden on educators on the very first day of school for students. This not only creates an excessive amount of hassle and unnecessary challenges for educators, but also makes the opening day of school an unpleasant and potentially traumatic experience for some of our children.
We acknowledge the fact that this directive aims to allow teachers to have two full days of preparation. However it is crucial that educators are afforded the opportunity to meet parents prior to the commencement of the academic year in order to alleviate unnecessary burdens on them, while ensuring a seamless start to the school year.
UPE will provide further information in the upcoming days regarding the aforementioned matter, reaffirming our commitment to prioritize educators and children.
