Ministry fails to assist peripatetic and support teachers — More directives issued

After the decision of the Courts on 14 October, the UPE immediately issued several individual directives to assist various teachers who had been unfairly deployed.

The UPE continued discussions with the Ministry regarding the problems such actions brought about for its members. As we have noted on previous occasions, it is evident that the Ministry is trying to take the union for a ride by not providing any solution to the problem.

Ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary, have failed to satisfactorily resolve the issues concerning our members. This has left the Union with no other option but to intensify its efforts to protect its members through the implementation of more directives.

With immediate effect, the union has adjusted a previous directive which read:

Nurture Group Teachers, Nurture Group LSEs, Complementary Teachers, and Literacy Support Teachers, who are members of the UPE, are to adhere to their scheduled timetable and not accept to take on any replacements.
The updated directive reads:

Nurture Group Teachers, Nurture Group LSEs, Complementary Teachers, Literacy Support Teachers, PSCD Teachers and all other Support Teachers, who are members of the UPE, are to adhere to their scheduled timetable and not accept to take on any replacements.

An additional directive related to the trade dispute has been reactivated from last year:

PSCD Teachers members of UPE working in Primary State Schools are not to give PSCD lessons if they are not provided with adequate classrooms, nurtured with all the necessary resources for PSCD.  (issued on the 03/06/2019)

These directives can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Directive’ tab on the UPE website.

Should any union member have any further queries on this issue or any other, please contact us on 99946582 or 21221252/6/8, or via email at info@upe.mt
