Members of the UPE operating within the IEU Unit (Inclusive Education Unit) are being compelled to remain on campus when students are not physically present.
Lecturers are subject to disparate treatment, as they are permitted to leave the campus during periods of student absence, despite being under the same collective agreement. A scenario reminiscent of some animals being more equal than others.
The UPE acted promptly and lodged a trade dispute on the 7th of May 2024, with directives becoming effective today, the 9th of May 2024.
MCAST has requested a conciliation meeting with the UPE to address the issue. This meeting is set for Monday, the 13th of May.
The UPE retains the right to issue additional directives to all MCAST members if negotiations prove unsuccessful.
