Directives – 15 Minute Break Not Being Remunerated

Various members have contacted the UPE with regards to the failure of several colleges in Malta, including St. Nicholas College & San Gorg Preca College, to submit the requisite documentation to ensure that LSEs are appropriately compensated for their allocated 15-minute breaks, which they have duly worked due to management not finding adequate replacements.

It is apparent that clerks haven’t sent such data to the salaries department.

Consequently, the union is officially issuing a trade dispute together with the following directive effective on the 15th of May 2023;

Members of the UPE are not to attend any meetings, appointments, case conferences etc. held outside school.

Educators who are members of the UPE are not to engage in face-to-face communication with members of the SMT. All communication between educators who are members of the UPE and their SMT is to be held via email.

Members of the UPE are not to answer any calls or emails or any other means of communication sent by the SMT or Ministry after school hours, considering that educators already do work from home including lesson preparations.

LSEs of all grades who are members of the UPE are to cease all paperwork related to their personal file and are not to hand in any official documentation to the SMT.

Members of the UPE are urged to contact us if they require assistance on 21221252 or via email on info@upe.mt.
