Confidential Information Unveiled

“Behind Closed Doors: Inside the MUT’s Financial Deliberations”

The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) has been made aware of recent deliberations within the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) regarding the potential acceptance of the government’s initial financial proposal, which purportedly stands at a single-digit percentage.

Insiders from the MUT leadership circle have conveyed to the UPE their apprehension in finalizing a financial agreement with the Ministry of Education, citing certain pressures impacting the MUT.

Furthermore, sources associated with the UPE’s network have disclosed MUT leadership structure’ strategies to convene multiple meetings with members in the coming weeks. The aim is to portray themselves (The leadership structure) as victims and convey their ongoing struggles in reaching an equitable deal with the government, despite indications that a financial agreement is imminent.

Notably, tenable rumours are coming from the Harmun Office, that the MUT may resort to populist tactics and decry perceived injustices during negotiations, potentially rallying members to adhere to forthcoming directives. This orchestrated reaction is seemingly intended to counter their purported dissatisfaction with the forthcoming agreement, which, in reality, they may be compelled to accept due to concerns about potential legal ramifications.

Moreover, reliable sources from within MUT, have strongly suggested that the MUT is considering a symbolic show of force, potentially through a strike action, despite the adverse impact it would have on its members’ remuneration amid the current economic circumstances.

In essence, the MUT appears to be under internal pressure, striving to secure a financial agreement that might not yield substantial improvements.

The MUT has already seen a significant loss of members due to the 2017 agreement, and it is making every effort to avert a potentially devastating further decline. Overall, this situation bears resemblance to a Maltese expression, “Kanna Ohra,” or the 2017 Agreement version 2. The UPE is actively monitoring these developments and communicating with crucial stakeholders crucial to the forthcoming agreement.
