The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) today announced an online meeting for Learning Support Educators (LSEs) to discuss issues related to seniority. While this might seem like a standard union activity, it has raised concerns among educators.
It’s important to note that discussions regarding conditions of work were concluded with the signing of a sectoral agreement on July 15th, 2024. This agreement established the parameters for work conditions, including seniority. The sudden need for further discussions on these matters raises questions.
Some educators worry that this meeting might be an attempt to attract new members under the guise of addressing unresolved issues.
Given that the sectoral agreement already covers these topics, educators are encouraged to verify information through trusted channels and to approach new initiatives with a critical mindset, ensuring they are well-informed before participating in any meetings.
